Mayfair residents are outraged by Phones4U tycoon John Caudwell's plans to turn expensive land near celebrity haunt Scott's into low cost homes for first time buyers

Phones4U's John Caudwell plans to turn Mayfair land into low cost homes
The billionaire (right) has lodged plans with Westminster council to redevelop a council street cleaning depot in Farm Street, Mayfair, in central London (bottom left). The move would create 14 homes which will be reserved for first-time buyers and low and middle-income. His plans to build the homes are in return for permission to demolish a multi-storey car park in nearby Audley Square, which he wants to transform it into a development which will rival One Hyde Park as London's most luxurious. But Mr Caudwell has outraged residents with his plans to relocate the affordable housing he is required to build by law to nearby Farm Street, which sits close to the club Annabel's, and Scott's restaurant - both favourites with celebrities and royals. A retired property developer who lives nearby said of the plans (top left): 'It is something like a council block in Reading but looks ridiculous in Mayfair.'
