Manchester Met University student claims Birley campus is so dangerous the cleaners won't
Lauren McAuliffe moved into her room on Manchester Metropolitan University's Birley campus last year but she says she cannot get a decent night's sleep and fears for her safety. The 21-year-old, who is doing a foundation year in science and engineering, claims she often finds strangers loitering in her room and that there is a constant smell of drugs wafting through the corridors. She also claims fire alarms have been dangerously covered up by smoking students and that cleaners have refused to enter the block because of the extent of the mess. The swish £139m campus in Hulme, which has 967 rooms for students (inset), opened two years ago.
