For incredible as it may sound, Alexander Litvinenko was my next-door neighbour in a leafy North London suburb, hitherto best known as the birthplace of rock band The Kinks. And when I am reminded of the former spy, as I have been often in the past nine years, the image that springs to my mind is of a physically imposing figure with a ready smile; an intense, passionate individual. Nicole Lampert (bottom left) reveals all about her friendship with the spy and his family (pictured bottom right with his wife) as well as the impact of his death (main image).
