Revealed: Elderly patients are handcuffed to beds, denied food and pain relief and kicked out in the dead of night as hospitals play 'Russian roulette' with dementia sufferers

The Alzheimer's Society say dementia patients in hospital play 'Russian roulette'
The failings are exposed in a report by the Alzheimer's Society. Its boss Jeremy Hughes said: 'In the worst cases, hospital care for people with dementia is like Russian roulette. People with dementia and their carers have no way of knowing what's going to happen when they are admitted. Good dementia care should never be a throw of the dice - yet people are forced to gamble with their health every time they are admitted to hospital.' The report also revealed that at least two dementia patients a day suffer falls in hospital and that hundreds are discharged from hospital wards at night.
