Kent couple spent £240,000 adding an extra STOREY to their houseCouple splashed out £240,000 on an extra STOREY for their house so it would never be devastated by floods again

June and Tim Chapman vowed two years ago that they would never relive the experience that saw them turfed out of their home for 15 months after it was flooded (bottom and inset) when the nearby River Medway in Yalding, Kent, burst its banks. Instead they raided their pension pots and added a third storey to the detached house (top), before also moving their kitchen and lounge to the first floor so they could quickly evacuate the ground level if the home were to flood again. The couple, who run the village post office next to their 1980s house, have also added half a floor to the garage to accommodate a generator. It means they will still have electricity and hot water even if their house floods.
