She is known as much for her bizarre healthy eating regimes as she is for her acting career.
And now it seems Gwyneth Paltrow’s ex-husband wants a slice of the pie.
Chris Martin has revealed he has adopted a 6:1 diet – which involves not eating on one day a week.
But the diet is far from a new idea – as it was hailed more than 50 years ago by Sir Stanley Matthews, who said it helped him play top level football to the age of 50.
Coldplay singer Martin, 38, claimed that the 6:1 programme makes him more creative and has improved his voice, although he admitted he sometimes turns to sweet treats after fasting.
Meanwhile Miss Paltrow, 43, who split from Martin in March 2014 in what they described as ‘consciously uncoupling’, revealed the success of her own regime while on holiday in Mexico. The actress showed off her impressively lean, toned physique as she enjoyed a day at the beach with her TV producer boyfriend Brad Falchuk, 44. Miss Paltrow is a big fan of yoga and follows a very restrictive diet.
Martin said he too had seen improvements from following a diet plan. He told a US radio station: ‘Creativity is one of the benefits of it. I started doing it because I was sick one time, and this guy said to me, “Try not eating for a day, it will make your body feel healthier”. And actually I did it and I found I could sing a bit better, and also I felt so grateful for food ... and very grateful for everything in a way that I wasn’t so much before. I think that the feeling of gratitude naturally brings out a joyous feeling, and when you are hungry you are very focused, so both sides of it help creativity.’
He admitted he struggles when he starts eating again after the fast day, saying: ‘I tend to have Nutella and pancakes, which is terrible and completely defeats the point.’
Sir Stanley, who died in 2000, claimed his long career was helped by the fact that he followed a 6:1 diet, fasting every Monday.
He once said: ‘I wanted to play as long as I could because I was in love with the game. I had some very good advice and started to eat more salads and fruit, and every Monday I had no food. Just one day, on a Monday, but I felt better.’
Sir Stanley, who retired in 1965 aged 50, enjoyed a career spanning 33 years and was the oldest player ever to represent England. He was also teetotal and a vegetarian.
But the 6:1 diet was yesterday criticised by health experts.
Chloe Miles, of the British Dietetic Association, said it was ‘dangerous’, adding: ‘It is likely to lead to a lack of concentration, tiredness and low mood, which isn’t going to make you that productive.

'There is no evidence at all that it will boost creativity – it just sounds like a crazy fad diet to me.
‘Chris Martin is likely to be craving something high in fat and sugar because his body will have been deprived of nutrients for 24 hours. If he had just eaten healthily throughout the day he is unlikely to have craved Nutella and pancakes.’
Miss Paltrow, who has two children with Martin, set out her 2016 detox plan on her lifestyle website Goop, cutting out alcohol, caffeine, added sugar, gluten, dairy, soy and corn.
