'We must confront this evil': Hilary Benn blows pacifist Corbyn out of the water with incredible speech convincing Labour rebels to back strikes in Syria - leaving Commons applauding and his leader squirming
Jeremy Corbyn sat stony-faced as his shadow foreign secretary Mr Benn set the commons alight with an extraordinary speech just before last night's vote on Syria. Described as 'one of the great speeches in parliamentary history' Mr Benn made a compelling case for action, declaring: 'We must now confront this evil. It is now our time to do our bit in Syria.' It came after Mr Corbyn was branded a 'cheerleader' for an 'angry, intolerant pacifism' by his own MPs in an increasingly bitter row which threatens to tear the Labour party apart.
