Cambridge's women rowers became the toast of the 2016 Boat Race despite losing to their Oxford rivals after finishing the route even though their boat almost completely sank. The Blue Boat racers ended up under water as they trailed their opponents in the 71st hosting of the iconic contest. With the vessel almost out of sight, race officials ordered the brave young university team into calmer waters as they struggled in a choppy Thames tideway. However, the courageous crew rallied on, playing purely for pride as they eventually honed in on the finish line. They were met with roars of approval from the thousands gathered on the banks to watch the race, with their Oxford counterparts clapping them over the line as they rowed in exhausted.
