Princess Anne and the £1billion party that lit the fuse of Islamic terror 45 years ago
Exalted A-listers gathered in the heart of the desert nearly half a century ago, for the Shah of Iran's (right, with the Empress) £1.5billion 'party of the century'. Princes and princesses - including Princess Anne (left) - kings and queens, an emperor, presidents and dictators assembled at Persepolis in 1971 for the elite event. Remarkably, Orson Welles was even recruited to narrate the official video of the party, filmed by a Hollywood film crew. But the event would be remembered as the catalyst for a political revolution which continues to bedevil the entire Middle East - and the rest of the world - to this day.
