Auschwitz SS guard Reinhold Hanning on trial for helping in 170k murders 'made hell Angela Orosz Richt-Bein (left), 71, accused former SS guard Reinhold Hanning (right), 94, of 'making the hell of Auschwitz' possible during trial for his alleged complicity in 170,000 killings. Richt-Bein, who was born inside the concentration camp before Christmas 1944, travelled from Canada to witness at Hanning's trial. She recounted how infamous SS doctor Josef Mengele experimented with sterilisation drugs on her mother and her birth went unnoticed because she weighed one kilogram. Hanning, who sat in a wheelchair, declined to respond.
