Valerie Deakin who died in Kent Costa Coffee car crash picturedPictured: Mother of two, 74, who died after a car ploughed into a Costa Coffee on Christmas Eve while she was sitting having a drink with her eldest daughter

Valerie Deakin, 74 (left), was with her eldest daughter and her best friend when an 88-year-old man drove a black Audi directly into the Costa Coffee store (right) in Westerham, Kent, on Christmas Eve. The 'kind and caring' pensioner, from Udimore, East Sussex, was pronounced dead at the scene, while five other customers were also treated for severe injuries. In a statement released today, Mrs Deakin's husband of 50 years and her family described her as a 'modest' and 'exceedingly hard-working' woman who shared a love for all creatures big or small. The Costa Coffee shop remains closed and the company said it did not know when it would reopen. No arrests have been made in connection with the crash and officers from Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are continuing to appeal for information about the incident.
