Teacher at Les Deux Alpes avalanche faces investigation after pupils' death
The avalanche hit skiers, including a group of French students, in Les Deux Alpes (pictured) in eastern France after a teacher took them onto a black run which had been closed since the beginning of the ski season for safety reasons. Patrick Kanner, french minister for youth and sports, said today: 'A judicial inquiry will say why the teacher who was himself injured took (the group) onto a piste which was not open. How can you think of taking children, following periods of heavy snowfall, onto a piste which was closed?' A 16-year-old girl died in the deluge while a teenage boy died later in hospital. They studied at Saint-Exupery school in Lyon, where people laid flowers and lit candles on Wednesday evening. French education minister Najat Vallaud-Belkacem (bottom right) arrived at Saint-Exupery school in Lyon this evening to 'support the school community and the families'. A Ukrainian adult, who was not part of the group, was also killed.
