UK weather sees Britain set for warmest Christmas Day ever

Troops are called in and Government's emergency Cobra committee meets as Storm Eva threatens new flood misery for Cumbria with six inches of rain coming tomorrow

Heavy rain is forecast for the region tonight and into Boxing Day, with fears there will be more flood misery for people in the area which has been hit three times in a month (inset is Keswick). A total of 93 soldiers from the British Army's 2nd Battalion Duke of Lancaster's Regiment (some pictured) are assisting with the Department for Environment to erect flood barriers, distribute sandbags, evacuate vulnerable residents and examine the condition of existing flood defences.
