David Cameron accused of retreating on migrant benefits after Heathrow debacle

Show some steel, Dave: After Heathrow debacle, PM is accused of retreating on migrant benefits, greedy bankers and junk food firms

Ahead of summit talks this week, Downing Street says Prime Minister David Cameron is prepared to accept alternative proposals from European leaders on several key pledges But Eurosceptics say he should now accept his strategy is failing and instead back the campaign for Britain to leave the EU. Mr Cameron, who was furiously criticised last week for delaying a decision on a third runway at Heathrow, is accused of watering down a new law to rein in reckless bankers - following intense lobbying from the financial sector. And the Government has quietly shelved a campaign to combat obesity under which junk food firms were supposed to police themselves. On Europe, the PM has bowed to pressure from EU leaders and Brussels and will accept an alternative plan for cutting migrant benefits - as long as it reduces the flow of arrivals.
