© Thearon W. Henderson/Getty Images Marshawn Lynch may need surgery for a sports hernia. Marshawn Lynch sat out Sunday’s game against the 49ers with an abdomen injury, and there is concern that he could miss the remainder of the 2015 regular season.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Lynch’s injury is believed to be a sports hernia. The 29-year-old is scheduled to meet with a specialist on Monday, and confirmation of that diagnosis would likely result in surgery. If Lynch does undergo surgery, the hope would be that he can return in time for the playoffs.
That is, of course, if the Seahawks make the playoffs. Their win over San Francisco on Sunday improved their record to 5-5, but the Arizona Cardinals also won and are now 8-2. Seattle could end up fighting for a wild card spot.
Lynch has been a workhorse for the Seahawks for several seasons, but rookie running back Thomas Rawls proved against the Niners that he is capable of picking up the slack. Rawls rushed for 209 yards on 30 carries and added three catches for 46 yards. He scored two touchdowns.
Between Lynch’s injury and the concern the Seahawks supposedly have over Russell Wilson, things are not looking all that great in Seattle at the moment.
