The vision is to achieve a food secure Nigeria through a private sector-led agricultural sector that drives income growth, accelerates achievement in food and nutritional security, generates employment, and transforms Nigeria into a leading player in global food markets. The goal is not only to increase crop production, but also to create value-added food processing industries as a means to reduce food imports and create jobs.Critical targets:
- Create 3.5 million jobs in the agricultural sector by 2015
- Provide over $2 billion of additional income for Nigerian farmers
- Increase domestic food production by 20 million MT
- Make Nigeria self-sufficient in rice production by 2015
- Shift from net importer to net exporter of foodstuffs
