Who you gonna buy? Ghostbusters reboot action figures are unveiled by director Paul Feig after fan pleads for them to be made
Some clearly felt he was toying with fans.
For director Paul Feig took the dramatic step of unveiling the new Ghostbusters reboot on Twitter after a fan begged for them to be made for his daughter.
The filmmaker posted the exciting image of the six inch toys of stars Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones after being sent the passionate message from the parent.
Toying with the fans: Paul Feig shared an image of the new Mattel Ghostbusters reboot action figures after demand from fans on Twitter
He made the move after a fan called Tom sent him the message: ''If they don't make action figures of @paulfeig's #Ghostbusters, my daughter and I are going to lose our s***.'
Paul, the man behind Spy and Bridesmaids, soon replied, saying: 'Fear not. Action figures of our Busters have already been in production for months. Several types and sold separately.'
He also confessed he has an ulterior motive behind having such an interest in the six-inch dolls, saying: 'I collect too and so it's important to me.'
Ghostbusters II is famous for the plethora of merchandising that accompanied the film, and was an early example what is now standard practice for the modern blockbuster.
Ironically creators Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis as well as director Ivan Reitman did not want to make a sequel as the original film was intended to be conclusive, but they eventually bowed to Columbia Pictures' demands.
Busting the fears: The Ghostbusters director was moved to share the picture after a fan conveniently begged to find out about forthcoming merchandise
New crew: The forthcoming film is a complete reboot and stars (from L) Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon
The gender bending reboot features an all female cast in variants of roles previously filled by Aykroyd, Ramis, Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson.
Chris Hemsworth meanwhile will play the team's secretary, a part filled by Annie Potts in the 1984 classic, which cost $30 million to make.
Godfather III star Andy Garcia is playing the Mayor of New York City and Michael K. Williams will star as a character named Hawkins.
The movie, which has an eye-watering $154 million budget, is set to be released in July 2016
Flogging a dead horse: Dan Aykroyd has said wants a Ghostbusters-style universe similar to Marvel's
Original and best: Moviegoers are hoping the reboot will share the qualities of the 1984 classic rather than the woeful sequel
