Jeremy Hunt insists 40% of junior doctors turned up to work despite strike
Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt, pictured inset, has said 40 per cent of junior doctors are at work today - and claimed Sandwell General Hospital's doctors did go back to patients when asked to respond to an emergency. Sandwell, in West Bromwich, emailed staff 15 minutes after the strike began, telling them it had declared a so-called 'level 4' emergency yesterday and they should return to work. Bosses claimed it would be 'unsafe' for patients medics they went through with the industrial action. But the strikers (pictured) stayed on the picket line after the British Medical Association, which is behind the strike, said the so-called emergency was not a 'major unpredictable incident'.
