Blundering British Gas bill elderly couple £3,000.... for a flat that was demolished THREE YEARS ago
Patrick Kelly, 76, and his wife Marion, 83 (inset), received a £2,972 bill for their former home in Spencer Court, Newburn, Newcastle, despite the fact it was demolished (main image) after collapsing in severe floods.The bill was for power supposedly used after the couple were forced from the property when parts of the building collapsed into a culvert, and they were ordered to pay immediately. They have now hit out at British Gas for issuing the unnecessary bill, claiming it brought back 'horrible memories' of the worst day of their lives. British Gas admitted there had been a mistake and apologised, before blaming contractors for not updating meter details.
