John Cleese returns to Basil from Fawlty Towers' for Specsavers advertBasil's back, giving a police car a damn good thrashing! Fawlty fans' delight as John Cleese returns to classic role for advert

Fawlty Towers actor John Cleese has made a rare return to his classic 1970s character Basil Fawlty for an advert which viewers are hailing as the 'best in years.' Part of a campaign for Specsavers, the skit (left and main) recreates the scene where the frantic hotel owner gives his car a 'good thrashing' when it won't start (inset). The chain's latest advert proves that character is still very much close to the nation's heart more than 40 years on. It sees Cleese step into his car only for it to fail to start when he turns the key. Hopping out in a rage, he grabs a leafy tree branch to clobber the vehicle with. However, his poor eyesight means he mistakes the silver police car parked in front for his own. The officers are understandably taken aback by the flailing hotelier swiping their car with the branch
