She's the gangland moll with a heart of gold; a working-class star beloved for the Carry On movies and her role behind the bar as Peggy Mitchell in EastEnders - bold as brass and twice as tacky. It seems that even the Royal Family are fans. But despite reports circulating that she will be made a Dame, Barbara Windsor's place in the New Year's honours list remains unlikely, writes CHRISTOPHER STEVENS.
