Intelligence officials are hunting for a link to terror groups including ISIS after an American Muslim and his wife stormed a conference center in San Bernardino and killed at least 14 people.
It is not yet known why the attackers opened fire on the Inland Regional Center where a government holiday party was taking place.
The FBI are considering domestic terrorism as a possible motive, as well as workplace violence.
A Muslim American, identified as Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, and his wife, Tashfeen Malik, 27, were killed by police on Wednesday afternoon after a shootout in a suburban street.
The couple appear to have planned the mass shooting of Farook's colleges at San Bernardino County Public Health Department. The heavily armed couple turned up in military gear and opened fire 'without speaking'. They also planted explosives wired up to toy cars which police believe they planned to detonate remotely.
Meanwhile supporters of ISIS took to Twitter to celebrate the horrific attack, using the hashtag #AmericaBurning.
